FROM TREATING PILES TO EARNING ‘PILES’ OF AWARDS
The only entity that we remember and trust in our times of pain other than God is a doctor.
Living true to this is the competent and compassionate, Dr. Hitender Suri; a name to reckon with and God sent for many! In a mind blowing albeit well deserved feat, Sirhind based he has set one record after the other. At this rate, one day this doctor will perhaps set a record of having the highest number of records too! Being a competent doctor is a feat in itself, but Dr. Hitender has gone places (quite literally!) and has secured a place for himself in coveted names such as Limca Book of Records, India Book Of Records, The Unique World Records and the Grand Daddy of them all, The Guinness World Records. He has been nominated for Padam Shree in Social Service category in the medical field. He was also honoured with the eminent Dhanwantri award – the highest award in the field of Ayurveda by the State Government.
However, the modest soul that Dr. Hitender is, he calls it attachment to his field and not accomplishment in his field! One of his major contributions to the medical field is his pioneer research in inventing a new painless technique to treat the Fistula and piles – one of the most dangerous and painful diseases. “You come with piles and you go back with smiles”, he makes it sound so simple. The earlier treatment to this was very painful and possible only with invasive surgery. Dr. Suri sheds light on the fact how a considerable percentage – around 35-40% of the Indian population is suffering from hemorrhoids (commonly known as Piles). This disease is spreading fast due to stress, insomnia, constipation, and a growing inclination for fast food in the sedentary lifestyle of urbanites. “In my 18 years of working in the anorectal line, I’ve interacted with a lot of patients. Some patients continue suffering for years as they don’t share their problems because of embarrassment”, explains the doctor.
During his professional journey, he made two major and important breakthroughs – first to develop a homecare treatment solution for relief from haemorrhoids and second to create awareness about Rectal Cancer by organizing camps. Both these were ‘firsts’ in their own right! With the idea of generating awareness about this fatal disease that most people are oblivious to, he has organized more than 100 awareness camps till date. While certain other issues remain on the fore, it is a less known fact that almost 630000 people die every year in the world from Bowel Cancer. Early diagnosis can decrease mortality. Rana Hospital, under the able mentorship of Dr. Hitender, has taken a pledge to play key role in early diagnosis of Rectal Cancer. Rana Hospital, infact, has the credit of being the first in the region to start the Doppler Treatment for Haemorrhoids. Infact, they started the Infra Red Coagulation, a completely non invasive treatment for 1st and 2nd Degree Haemorrhoids way back in 2002. What sets Dr. Suri apart is how he intertwines contemporary techniques with conventional Ayurveda. He conceptualised an Ancient Ayurvedic treatment for Fistula – a technique that is WHO approved, is extremely effective and has the lowest recurrence rate in world. In 2015, the then Health Minister Sh. Surjeet Jyani gave permission to organize camps for Rectal Cancer awareness and under Dr. Hitender Suri’s able leadership, these have been a regular feature since then.
The doctor reminisces how after completing his BAMS, he started with a modest infrastructure and had minimum staff to cut costs. His diligence as well as passion paid off and soon he was able to carve out a niche for himself. Soon, his popularity spread like wild fire throughout North India and his passion for the treatment of piles and fistula was recognized far and wide. There was no looking back and Dr. Hitender went to Italy for advanced training in his field. A humble and philanthropic doctor, this magnanimous soul is associated with a lot of charitable institutions, has organized around 100 free camps and operated around 1000 absolutely patients free of cost. At the ISURC Conference in London, his innovation GMS Piles Relief Device first home care device from India got recognition.
Dr Suri is not a man to rest content on just laurels. He is strong believer in the dictum that the best is yet to come. He relies on the latest technology to bring the best results. The fact that he single handedly and tirelessly performed 391 operations in a single day in 8 hours and 45 minutes is how he made it to the Limca Book of Records. The record remains unbroken till date. The latest feather in his cap is yet another world record for the largest pledge taking online community awareness campaign ‘Let’s Together Defeat COVID 19.”
Whether it is the one-of-its-kind painless treatment of piles or the piles of accolades that he has got over the years, be it the Indian Iconic Award 2014, Jagran Coffee Table Book Awardee 2014, Bharat Gaurav Awardee 2016, this doctor is an asset in every which way.
